Spiral Garden Cafe
The Spiral Garden Café is a pop-up, pay-as-you-feel, community café based on the permaculture principles: ‘people care’, ‘earth care’, and ‘fair share’. We are passionate about improving the health and well-being of both our community and our planet. We use a combination of organically grown produce, from GGP’s permaculture garden, and surplus food from supermarkets and farms, that would otherwise go to landfill, to create delicious, vegan-friendly, three-course meals for all to share.
We seek to create spaces where everyone is welcome and we celebrate our diverse community. Our café is run on a pay-as-you-feel basis to ensure that everyone is welcome. If you can’t afford to make a financial donation, no matter! We encourage anyone who can’t donate money to donate their time instead; this could be through volunteering for the cafe or in the wider GGP project. Our pay-as-you-feel philosophy gives people the opportunity to ‘pay it forward’, which means that everyone has equal access to food no matter who you are. We are strong believers that sharing food together is a fantastic way to connect with new friends and old, and to bring communities together.
We are completely volunteer run and not for profit, all the proceeds raised at our events are used to maintain the running of the café and to support projects run by the GGP.
Due to COVID we were unable to run our regular three-course meal events and instead were distributing emergency food during the pandemic. Our café usually takes place every two weeks at The Old Abbey Taphouse. Now regular cafe days are open at The Niamos Center in Hulme. The Spiral Garden Café has recently stopped its residency at The Niamos Center. We had a fantastic year, but people and times are changing and we are evolving to match the needs of our people.
We are still connecting people and projects to surplus food saved from landfill, and we will still be doing pop-up Pay As You Feel Meals!!! So keep an eye out to see when they’ll be happening.
